Sajjangad is 15 kms from Satara City. Sajjangad is linked with a "Samarth Ramdas Swami". The Ramdas Swami was the spiritual master and Guru of King Shivaji. It is one of the important place to visit in Satara city. This place is situated on hill top. Here you will see many worshipers of God Rama.
This place get crowded at the time of "Dasnavami (दासनवमी)". Normally you will find the Ramdas Swami's followers and some visitors here. You can drive up to the base of the hill. Rest of the part you need to walk. You will always get hear the poems written by Ramdas Swami. While traveling to Sajjangad you can take a look of Urmodi dam. At the base(parking place) there is a small hotel. You can buy water and some food. It takes maximum 15-20 minutes to reach temple. You will find few water and butter milk sellers sitting beside road on the way to temple.
Ramdas Swami was the very important person in the history of Maharashtra. He was the spiritual Guru of the king Shivaji. Ramdas Swami has written the poems called "Manache Shlok (मनाचे श्लोक)" and the granth called "Dasbodh (दासबोध)".
After climbing you will reach to the entrance of fort called "Shivaji Maharaj Entrance". Some distance ahead on the left side there is a small lake and an old temple. Further through passing the shops, selling books on Ramdas Swami you reach to the main temple. This is the Samadhi place of Ramdas Swami. There is a temple of God Rama. You can sit here as long as you want and spend a time in peace.
Backside of this temple on a walking distance the Hanuman temple is there. From here you can take a beautiful view of Urmodi Dam and surrounding nature. If you wish to stay here the management has offers few residential courses for you.
How To Reach?
You can reach Sajjangad by going Rajwada via Samarth Mandir from there is road to Sajjangad. On the way to Sajjangad you will see the tunnel. After passing from tunnel you need to take right turn. After that there is straight road to Sajjagad. You can reach Sajjangad via state transport buses from Rajwada in Satara or by your vehicle. The road direction and milestones direct the way to Sajjangad.
